Bwindi Impenetrable National Park spans from lowland forest to a montage forest belt in southwestern Uganda. It is renowned for having a population of wild mountain gorillas and is said to have served as a refuge for several species throughout the previous ice age.
It is worthy to note that gorilla trekking is the principal activity in Bwindi. Nearly half of the mountain gorillas in the world today are found in this forest and the opportunity to get up close and personal with these incredible animals is an experience that truly deserves to be called once in a lifetime.
But anyone who visits Bwindi solely for gorilla trekking and departs before sighting them suffers the danger of losing out. A little more time spent exploring the forest will reveal the park’s distinctive flora and fauna, the greatest hiking routes, and interesting facts about the people who call the forest home.
Early in the morning, your driver/guide will arrive at a pickup location in Entebbe or Kampala for a tour briefing before departing for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Along the route, there will be stops for pictures, such as the equator crossing. You can choose to have lunch in Mbarara, ideally at the Igongo Cultural Center. The journey may be lengthy, but if you enjoy exploring new locations and the outdoors, the scenery will leave a lasting impression on you.
With its national parks, mountains, and traces of volcanic activity, the western region of Uganda boasts breathtaking landscape. You may anticipate passing picturesque rivers and lakes as well as locals taking care of their gardens. Keep an eye out for Long-horned Ankole cattle and ask to taste some of the fresh local fruits at any of the markets along the way. Keep your eyes out as you drive past the picturesque highlands of Kisoro and Kabale.

Get up early, have breakfast, and wait for the guide to bring you to the park headquarters for the 7:30 a.m. required briefing. Everything you need to know about the park, the animals, and of course the mountain gorillas is covered in the briefing. Based on your general level of fitness, a gorilla family will be allocated to you. Following the briefing, you will visit several locations according on the gorilla family you have been assigned to. For roughly $15, you can hire a porter if you have heavy equipment.
The duration of gorilla trekking in Bwindi forest varies based on the gorilla group you are allocated, ranging from 30 minutes to 5 hours. You will come across a beautiful tropical forest with incredible biodiversity while on the hike. Be mindful of the bird, smaller primates, and vegetation.
The gorillas are only permitted to spend an hour with you. Spend some time observing and researching their actions. Make sure you abide by the regulations of gorilla trekking, which include maintaining a 7-meter distance from the closest primate. Avoid trying to touch gorillas, especially young ones, to prevent startling the enormous Silverback. Keep your cool at all times. You will receive a certificate of participation and be escorted back to the starting location once your time with the primates has over. Your driver will return you to your lodge so you may unwind, eat lunch, and finish checking out. You will be taken to Lake Bunyonyi for an evening of leisure after packing everything.

Amidst arriving late at night, you will awaken to awe-inspiring beauty, a gorgeous sunrise, birds, and a stunning view of the lake. Request to have your breakfast served outside so you may take in the views of the lake. For the sheer beauty of the surroundings, Lake Bunyonyi is one of Uganda's most popular tourist sites. You can choose from an endless list of activities, such as hiking, birdwatching, exploring caves, nature walks, mountain biking, touring the adjacent towns, going to the forests, and seeing primates.
Gorilla trekking and Bunyonyi LakeThe most well-liked pastimes are canoeing, exploring the many islands, and unwinding on the lakeshore. Remember to visit the punishment island if you decide to go island hopping and canoeing. Girls who were pregnant before getting married were left there to perish about 80 years ago. Eventually, the majority were discreetly saved by their boyfriends or single friends who were unable to pay the bride price. After completing the activities, you will be escorted back to the lodge for a last check-in before departing for Kampala or Entebbe.
