West Nile sub-region refered to as West Nile province consists of districts in North western Uganda in Northern Uganda. They include; Adjumani, Arua, Koboko, Maracha, Terego, Madi-Okollo, Moyo, Nebbi, Yumbe, Zombo and Obongi. The region is bordered by South Sudan to the North, DRC to the west, Acholi sub-region to the East and Albertine rift valley to the south. Its name originated from being located in the western side of the Albertine Nile. Former president of Uganda Idi Amin Dada first gained prominence in the West Nile region before staging a military coup to uproot Milton Obote in 1971.

West Nile consists of beautiful tribes thus; Lugbara, Alur, Lendu,  Madi, Kakwa, Nubian and Kebu people.

Mirundua falls

It is found on River Oluffe 20km on Arua-Koboko road. The water that flows out of the rocks is so beautiful and magical making the place a must visit fortourists to take picture and create memorable expriences. Ajai Wildlife Game Reserve.

 

It is a protected conservation area with a good number of Rhinos in North East. It is a home for the majestic white rhinoceros. In the heart of Madi Okollo district lays Ajai game reserve a home for the white rhino. It provides a shelter for these endangered creatures. Visitors to this reserve witness the unique and unforgettable wildlife experience.

Mountain Wati.

 

It is found in Terego district known as the tallest in the West Nile though it lies in a lower area above sea level. Mountain Wati was a habitat of big snakes/ serpents with snake lights for trapping prey at night. Dridibu, the first Lugbara met his leprous wife there and healed her. It is where the Lugbara origin started. The tourists enjoy mountain climbing and nice view of the homesteads around the area.

Mountain Liru.

It is located on the border between Koboko and Maracha. On top of this mountain there is a crator lake believed to connect River Nile underground. It is also believed that the Jewish prophet Moesh disappeared from here. It harbours red monkeys, rock badgers among others.

Biku

This is where the smallest church in Uganda is. It accomodates 3 christians including the priest. The church measures a width of 2.5m and height of 8 ft. It was founded by retired archbishop His Lordship Henry Luke Orombi and Song a Korean pastor in 1996. It is believed that those who come to this church are able to meet with God especially in a vision. The church has nine prayer points.
