Northern Uganda being one of the regions in Uganda, the pearl of Africa is blessed with many historical and cultural sites worth a visit by the tourists and locals. some of them include;

Guru Guru Caves.

Guru guru caves are found 25km away from Gulu town in Amuru district. These caves are always a stopover when traveling to Gulu the biggest city in Northern Uganda. These were a hiding place of the Lamogi during the resistance against colonial rule of 1911. Acholi being the biggest tribe in Northern part of Gulu, the Acholi people were forced to hide in these caves to resist British rule. We branch to this place to feed your ears on stories about this place. The steep slopes give a worth trek towards the hidden caves of the ancient/ early slayers.

Amuru Hot Springs.

It’s one of the icons that sincerely define Uganda as the Pearl of Africa. One is thought to be female and the other male. Locally known as Wanga Amuru for female and Wanga Alero for the male both are found in Nwoya district which is curved out of Amuru district. This is one of the attractions in this area that both locals and visitors go to. More than 40 people visit the spring each day. The spring has never dried up no matter the season. The sweet sound of the birds singing in adventure is music to the ears of anyone at the place. This place is just worth visiting.

Baker’s Fort Patiko.

Fort Patiko is among the remaining early structures revealing the slavery and the British colonial era in Uganda and East Africa. Initially, it was built by Arabs as market for slaves sold to countries like Kuwait, Iraq, Iran etc. It’s now a historical fort located in northern Uganda in Ajulu parish, Patiko sub-county, Aswa county in Gulu district.

It contains a 15 feet deep trench which was dug purposely to prevent the slaves from escaping and built using stones. The fort was named after sir Samuel Baker remembered as the first European to explorer or visit Lake Albert and River Nile. Currently the fort is open to the public for research and education purposes.

Olum Foot Prints Site.

 

Tyen Olum was listed among Barlanyo memorial site where it was reported that more 300 innocent people were killed by LRA, Kangai village where colonialists captured Omukama Kabalega king of Bunyoro and Kabaka Mwanga king of Buganda and Got Ojwang in Otuke district. It’s where Lango from Ethiopia first settled.

Idi Amin Dada’s Home.

IDI Amin Dada was the president of Uganda from 1971-1979. He committed a number of human rights abuses, led a corrupt administration which changed Uganda’s political ideologies. Among the many self- proclaimed titles, he claimed that he was the last uncrowned king of Scotland which left people with many unanswered questions. Amin was born in Koboko in Northwestern Uganda to a Kakwa father and Lugbara mother. He came to be known as ‘the butcher’ due to his brutality during his regime as the president of Uganda. He died in August, 16, 2003 and buried in Ruwais cemetery in Jiddah in Saudi Arabia.
