What sets Queen Elizabeth National Park apart from other parks is the presence of the Kazinga Channel, a channel that connects the two lakes of Edwards and George. Kazinga Channel is renowned for being the world’s largest concert of hippos, and it is found in the heart of Queen Elizabeth National Park, which is about 420 kilometers from Kampala City. The presence of the Kazinga Chanel is a great asset for the park and the tourists.

The channel attracts a lot of aquatic species, including the herd of elephants, buffaloes, and waterbucks, as well as the Nile crocodiles. Kazinga Channel is about 32 kilometers long and connects both Lake Edward and Lake George. It features one of the best tourist attractions in Queen Elisabeth National Park and is organized along the North Kazinga Channel, the Kasenyi Plains. These two parts are separated by the Kazinga Channel Bridge, and they all have the best places. Here, you can see wildflowers and several water species.

You can also enjoy the best views of the two parks of the Kazinga Channel once you are in the Kasenyi Plains and even when you are in the Kyambura Gorge for chimpanzee trekking experience.

Further, the Kazinga channel in Queen Elizabeth National Park features the swamp near the Mweya Peninsular, and these have been registered as Ramser sites for the conservation of the wetland. This wetland is home to several crocodiles, great species of birds, and the water, and you can also find sitatunga antelopes, water bucks, and other species of animals. You can also explore and visit this great national park for the best safari experience. You need to enjoy the greatness of this forest reserve among the best safari experiences.

While taking the boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, you will find lonely buffaloes that have been chased away from the herd, and they have found shelter on the shores of the park. At this point, these buffaloes are extremely vulnerable since they have been ignored and abandoned by the herd.

These buffaloes will be seen breathing, or what you can call wallowing. These buffaloes do wallowing as a way of removing the ticks from themselves and as a possible way to get the bites from the flies in case they get the injuries. In the autumn, most of the animals can be found along the shores of the Kazinga Channel, and this is because this is the time when the sun hits hard, and thus the animals will always rush here to the channel to drink water and cool themselves.

We can say that Kazinga Channel is the most popular tourist attraction not only in Queen Elizabeth National Park but in the whole of Uganda, and this is because the majority of tourists who visit Uganda, especially Queen Elizabeth National Park, cannot fail to engage in boat cruise activities on Kazinga Channel.

The channel is bored with Lake George on the eastern side, and it is one of the six largest fresh waters that we have had in the country of Uganda. The lake originates from very large rivers from Mount Rwenzori, and this is the lake that is responsible for the drainage of the channel and the Lake Edward.

Thus, this is a must-see tourist attraction that you will need to enjoy while exploring and visiting Queen Elizabeth National Park. As I mentioned earlier, various animals, including hippos, crocodiles, sitatunga antelopes, birds, waterbucks, buffaloes, and elephants, are all attracted to these great shores. With the largest population of hippos and most crocodiles in the world, it draws wildlife all year.

Once you decide to embark on the Kazinga Channel, you will be able to see fishing communities that look out over streams during the boat ride, like Kasenyi Plains. You can observe fishermen washing their nets in the river from the boat. You might also get a chance to see young boys using the more rudimentary and conventional technique of hook fishing to catch fish. You can also see fishermen repairing their boats and women repairing the pier when you look across the stream to the fishing villages.

If you are interested in exploring the clear views of the Kazinga channel, then you will need to explore the Kazinga Channel on boat which you can take from the Kazinga Channel Bridge to the Mweya Peninsular. You can take the boat cruise early in the morning at 11 or start the boat cruise in the afternoon, but most of the clients like taking the afternoon boat cruise since this is when the visitors enjoy the many species that come to enjoy the water.

Usually, the boat cruise starts at Mweya Peninsula. Which is about 20 kilometers (km) west of Kasese-Mbarara Road (Main Road) is the Mweya Peninsular. The route taken by typical vehicles between Mbarara and Kasese passes through Katunguru. At Katunguru Trading Centre, you can also hire a special taxi for a one-way trip to Mweya Safari Lodge, where you can reserve a boat tour down the length of Kazinga Channel.
